So grateful to Consulting Producer Lady Irene Gandy for tickets to A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical which opens 11/11. The talent is stellar. The performances and voices are incredible. The lighting, costume design, choreography, and the set design are fantastic too. Kudos to the Production Stage Manager RL Campbell. OMG. I came away having felt the nuance of “the mask” that Louis Armstrong had to wear throughout his career. And singing all the songs of course. Loved it. @awonderfulworldbway @iamirenegandy

It was one of her performances (like with her Shakespeare and Greek theatre performances) that I could not find my mother somewhere in there.

Legacy moment from Hasna: I went to the Black Theatre Arts Festival with Mom and Dad maaaany years ago. They stayed in Dr. Maya Angelou’s guesthouse, and I stayed a few miles away in a hotel where most of the out-of-towners who were attending the Festival stayed. I joined them –along with Howard Dodson– for a sumptuous dinner one evening and for breakfast the next day. Like a mother, Dr. Mother Maya offered me the use of her car to travel back and forth, and I accepted. Her car was a candy-apple red Lincoln Continental with a white vinyl top. As I drove the short distance, I garnered the attention of the locals who recognized her car and no doubt expected her to be at the wheel. I was grateful for the transportation and honored to have it provided by THE Dr. Maya Angelou, but I was holding my breath and praying to God that nothing would happen to her while I was driving. #notonmywatch

Shout outs to Derek McLane who was nominated for a Tony for the Best Scenic Design of a Play and to Emilio Sosa who was nominated for Best Costume Design of a Play): Every member of the crew was welcoming when I asked to watch what they do—checking and double checking all the moving parts and props and lights and sounds and costumes +. They graciously explained and pointed and demonstrated not only to me, but also to my sons @mutaali and @an.nur.media, my niece @imani_lvrn and my nephew @__longma__ who had the chance to get up close. Thank you for commitment to the work and the comments of reverence and respect for Dad and Purlie Victorious.
